Army units repel NPA attack in Davao City

From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 2): Army units repel NPA attack in Davao City

Government security forces fended off an unprovoked New People's Army (NPA) attack against a patrol base in Paquibato District, Davao City Sunday morning.

The assault, which lasted for 20 minutes, started 7 a.m. when rebel fighters affiliated with the Pulang Bagani Company of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee fired at the CAFGU Active Auxiliary Patrol Base of the 72nd Infantry Battalion at Sitio Ipil, Barangay Sumimao, Paquibato District.

Capt. Rhyan Batchar, 10th Infantry Division public affairs office chief, said the NPAs fired when only 300 meters away from the patrol base regardless of its proximity to civilian settlements.

Return fire from on duty soldiers and militiamen forced the NPAs to retreat after a 20-minute battle.

There were no casualties reported.
