From the Philippine News Agency (Nov 2): 3 soldiers wounded in Sulu clash

Three soldiers were wounded in a clash with Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands as focus military offensive (FMO) continues in the province of Sulu, a top military official disclosed Monday.

Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, disclosed that the clash ensued around 1:45 p.m. Monday in Barangay Liang, Patikul municipality.

Arrojado said the clash broke out when the Alpha Company troops of the Army’s 35th Infantry Battalion encountered at least 20 ASG brigands while on combat mission.

Arrojado said the ASG brigands that figured in a clash with the troops are led by Ninok Saparri, one of the brigands’ sub-leaders.

He said three soldiers assigned with the Army’s 35th Infantry Battalion were slightly wounded when the ASG brigands fired a caliber 40 millimeter known M-203 grenade.

He said the ASG brigands fled towards Barangay Tugas, Patikul, upon sensing the arrival of government troops’ reinforcements.

The government troops have launched FMO targeting the senior leaders of the ASG brigands as well their foreign cohorts in Sulu.
