One of the patrolling troopers of the 29th Infantry
Battalion was wounded after they were fired upon by an estimated 20 New
People's Army (NPA) bandits at Remedios T. Romualdez town, Agusan Del Norte
Monday afternoon.
The incident took place 4:30 p.m. at the vicinity of Sitio
Bahi, Barangay Tagbongabong, of the above-mentioned town, said Eastern Mindanao
Command spokesman Capt. Alberto Caber.
He said the rebel force was under the command of one Derek,
a NPA leader affiliated with the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee.
The exchange of gunfire lasted 10 minutes and civilians
recounted seeing many rebels wounded in the fighting.
"The wounded soldier was immediately given first aid
care by the troops and is now on stable condition," Caber said.
The patrols are part of the military's pursuit operations
against the NPA's rampage last week that killed an innocent farmer and bombed a
10-wheeler truck in Kauswagan, Loreto, Agusan
Del Sur.
