From Ang Malaya (Apr 15): Mohagher Iqbal’s real name revealed
ABS-CBN News sources in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Congress have revealed Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s peace negotiator and Bangsamoro Transition Commission chairman Mohagher Iqbal’s real name.
The sources said on the sidelines of the executive session in Congress on the Mamasapano incident on Tuesday that Iqbal’s real name is Hassan Abdullah Muhammad. He was born on February 14, 1947 in Cotabato City.
Earlier reports that says the peace negotiator’s real name is “Lubis Abas” was not true, according to the source. They also added that Iqbal and government officials cannot be forced to say the MILF official’s real identity due to the prior peace talk’s agreement.
“The use of a nom de guerre by Iqbal in signing the peace agreement does not constitute any legal violation, for both parties involved fully recognized Iqbal as the MILF’s chief negotiator in the peace process,” Senate President Franklin Drilon said.
However, Drilon said that revealing Iqbal’s real name can be an important “confidence-building measure” that can alleviate doubts on the organization’s sincerity and commitment towards peace.
