The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday vowed to file charges against the New People’s Army (NPA) attackers of Matanao Municipal Police Station (MPS) in Davao del Sur recently that resulted in the killing of three cops.
PNP Director General Alan Purisima said the organization will not let the NPA attack unanswered.
”We are operating against them. We are gathering information. We will be filing cases against these people,” said Purisima.
”When the arrest warrants are issued, we will arrest them,” vowed Purisima.
About 50 fully-armed NPA rebels attacked the Matanao MPS last Monday, killing two policemen instantly while another one died while undergoing treatment. Two more lawmen were wounded during the attack.
The NPA justified the attack by implicating the policemen to the proliferation of illegal drugs.
Purisima, however, defended his men against the communist allegation.
”These rebels want all the wrong to be blamed to the government. What are they aiming for? They want to seize power, they want to be the rulers of our country so it’s normal for them to say that (involvement of cops to illegal drugs),” said Purisima.
At the same time, the chief PNP commended members of the Matanao MPS for bravely resisting the NPA attack despite being outnumbered.
”They were able to fight back and we received information that many rebels were wounded during the clash,” said Purisima.
