Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has closely coordinated with partner agencies to update the infrastructure projects intended to some identified depressed areas in region 2.

Army Lieutenant General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr., commander of the Northern Luzon Command, has visited the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to be updated on the road networks, bridges and schools for peace development progress that were identified in the Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) for Northern Luzon.

He said there were identified 40 depressed barangays mostly located within the boundaries of the provinces and also identified as hotpot zones.

“The projects aimed at providing accessibilities to far flung areas and the other regions, especially the Cordillera, Ilocos region and Cagayan Valley for an easy access to government service and other opportunities to the people living in the innermost part of our region,” Catapang stated.

He explained that they also partnered with Local Government Units concerns to further finance some of the proposed projects. Some LGUs allotted five to 15 million funds for the projects’ completion.

Aside from the infrastructure projects, Catapang also coordinated with the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) to determine potential investment areas as economic development indicator in the region.

“We need to work on these to win progress, peace and prosperity,” Catapang stated.

This is the contribution of the Armed Forces to the thrust of the government to prepare the region and the investment hub for progress and development, he added.
