From Rappler (Feb 7): Land mine, fire fight in Basilan kills one, 2 injured
Two members of the Philippine Army's civilian active auxiliary unit were injured Friday, February 7, after an encounter with an armed group in Basilan.
At around 6 am Friday, members of the Charlie Company of the 64th Infrantry Battalion were conducting a combat patrol when they encountered armed men in Sitio Lukketon, Barangay Sukaten in Sumisip, Basilan.
After 15 minutes of firefight, two members were left injured.
Also in Basilan, a man died after a land mine exploded at a rubber farm in Barangay Mebak, Sumisip town.
Mih Ustalin was checking rubber trees in the farm when the land mine exploded, killing him.
Authorities are still investigating who planted the bomb.
