BUTUAN CITY--A suspected member of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) was served with a warrant of arrest while recuperating from a bullet wound in a private hospital here.

In a statement on Thursday, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 (Caraga) said
Rey S. Antonio, 19, a resident of Santiago, Agusan del Norte, was arrested at the Butuan City Medical Center on Tuesday.

The police said Antonio was wounded
during a clash between the rebels and government troopers in Santiago town on November 2.

Antonio, it added, was considered by the Santiago municipal police as its most wanted person as he was tagged in the killing of Chief Master Sgt. Reil M. Morgado on Dec. 13, 2018.

PRO-13 said its intensified manhunt operations also resulted in the arrest of three others on its most-wanted list.

Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr., the PRO-13 director, said on Thursday that the arrests were in line with the continuing implementation of “Manhunt Charlie” in the region.

“Manhunt Charlie”, Esquivel said, is part of the "persistent efforts" of the police to keep Caraga "safe and secure from lawless elements."
