Posted to Kalinaw News (Nov 7, 2019): Parents of minors filed human trafficking raps vs. arrested militants

CAMP MONTELIBANO, Bacolod City – Parents and relatives of the rescued minors filed a qualified human trafficking case before the office of the Bacolod City Prosecutor’s Office against six of the arrested CPP-NPA Terrorist front members on Wednesday, November 06, 2019.

These front members were among the arrested individuals during the simultaneous search and seizure operation of joint elements of the Philippine Army and Philippine National Police in Bacolod City last October 31.

The parents accused them of recruiting their minor children to join illegal activities like armed struggle. They are complaining of the deceitful recruitment activities of the said individuals.

It can be recalled that a 12-year old girl from La Carlota City who is one of the rescued minors during the operation tempted to join the group after she was invited to participate in a cultural show. She asked her mother’s permission to appear in a practice for a cultural presentation, but the mother was surprised after receiving a report that her daughter was with the group of militants arrested by the government forces.

The girl’s case is a concrete proof that they are using cultural show as front to lure and recruit young members.

This criminal activity of the front groups was unearthed by the government forces while in the course of processing the statements of those who were held in custody.

Aside from this, we have a testimony from a former rebel who recruited these minors that the group has an intention to make them child warriors, hence, we are encouraging other victims of the deceitful recruitment activities of these militants to come out, cooperate with us and file appropriate charges to bring the suspects to justice.
