Brig. Gen. Ernesto Torres Jr. was appointed as the new commander of the Civil Relations Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (CRSAFP).

AFP vice chief-of-staff, Vice Admiral Gaudencio Collado Jr., led the change of command ceremony at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City Wednesday.

Torres, the incumbent head of the Joint Task Force Haribon and deputy commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command, will now lead the AFP's civil affairs and information support operations.

He replaced Marine Brig. Gen. Edgard Arevalo, AFP spokesperson and assistant deputy chief of staff for Civil-Military Operations, who served as acting CRSAFP commander following the retirement of Maj. Gen. Bienvenido Datuin Jr.

“The change of command ceremony between Brigadier General Edgard A. Arevalo, the acting commander, CRSAFP and his successor, Brigadier General Ernesto C. Torres Jr, not only manifests the stable and strong succession of leadership in the AFP but is also a venue to honor individuals who had wholeheartedly served the noble profession of arms,” Collado said.

Torres, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1989, is an experienced public affairs officer with stints in the General Headquarters and the Philippine Army.

He was also the Commander of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade and Army assistant chief of staff for personnel, or G-1.

Torres' combat and administrative experience were highly recognized with several Distinguished Service Stars, Distinguished Service Medals, Meritorious Achievement Medals, Bronze Cross Medals, and Outstanding Achievement Medals, among others.

“As General Arevalo passes his duties and responsibilities to General Torres, he also passes on his legacy of effective leadership and service excellence. With his vast knowledge and years of experience in serving the organization, I have all the confidence in General Torres’ competence to lead the CRSAFP to even greater success,” Collado said.
