Kalinaw News: NPA member from Capiz surrenders to 61IB

Posted to Kalinaw News (Nov 7, 2019): NPA member from Capiz surrenders to 61IB

CAMP MONTECLARO, Miagao, Iloilo – A member of the CPP-NPA Terrorist from the province of Capiz voluntarily surrendered to the Army’s 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion (61IB) on November 05, 2019.

LTC Joel Benedict Batara, Commanding Officer, 61IB identified the surrenderree as alias Rudy, a member of Front 15, Eastern Front, Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay of the communist-terrorist group.

LTC Batara said alias Rudy voluntarily turned himself without firearm to 61IB in coordination with the PNP and barangay officials.

False promises and unbearable hardships inside the armed group forced alias Rudy to surrender, said Batara.

Aside from these reasons, the surrenderee admitted that after joining the group, he realized that armed revolution is not a solution to his problems.

LTC Batara called on the remaining members of the communist-terrorist group to do the same for them to save their lives and future from the destructive armed struggle. “Rudy is right in saying that armed revolution is not a solution to all of your problems. Armed struggle has claimed many innocent lives including those who pursue this terroristic activity. Don’t allow this misfortune to happen for you still have time to start a new and normal life,” Batara added.

With the surrender of alias Rudy, the 61IB has now a total of 12 rebel returnees for this year alone. Alias Den-Den, a member of Southern Front, Komiteng Rehiyon-Panay from the 1st District of Iloilo is one of the most recent surrenderees of the 61IB. He yielded with firearm last October 16.
