CAMP MONTELIBANO, Bacolod City -- The Philippine Army commends the vigilance of the people of Negros Occidental in helping government troops to track down terrorists.

Joint Task Force (JTF) Negros Commander BGen Eric Vinoya lauded the vigilance of the Negrenses in helping the government forces in tracking down the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Party (CPP-NPA) Terrorist which resulted in another armed firefight in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental on the evening, of October 09, 2019.

Vinoya said the Negrenses’ will to end insurgency is the source of their courage and vigilance in giving accurate information to the government forces on the movement and activities of the communist-terrorists in Negros Island.

“Sunod-sunod nating natatamaan ang mga kalaban dahil sa eksaktong impormasyon na binibigay ng mga mamamayan. Ang kanilang pagtulong ay nagpapahiwatig ng kanilang kagustuhan na matuldukan na ang deka-dekadang pagmamalupit sa kanila ng mga teroristang CPP-NPA,” Vinoya said.

Earlier, the 62nd Infantry (Unifier) Battalion reported that while their troops are conducting joint combat operation with Technical Support Company of the Philippine National Police’ Regional Mobile Group 6, they encountered more or less 10 communist-terrorists at about 8:20 in the evening of October 9 at Sitio Basak in Tan-awan village.

The firefight lasted for about 15 minutes, and after which the terrorist group withdrew towards the northeast direction of the village carrying their dead comrade.

The casualty on the enemy’s side was confirmed by the civilian informant and supported by the traces of bloodstains found near the group’s abandoned position.

A police patrolman was also slightly wounded on his right leg but already in stable condition.

Aside from a confirmed casualty on the terrorist group’s side, the encounter also resulted to recover one rifle grenade, two Magazine of AK47, 117 rounds 7.62 live ammo, two pairs rain boots, Firing "electrical" wires of IED, medical kit with paraphernalia and various medicines, two energizer batteries, one pouch, and two backpacks with personal belongings.

Vinoya said the encounter in Tan-awan, Kabankalan City is the third blow of the task force against the communist-terrorists.

“This is the third but definitely not the last strike of JTF Negros against these terrorists, hence, they should expect more intensive combat operations in the coming weeks as we utilize the AFP air and naval assets,” he said.

In October 3, 2019, the CPP-NPA Terrorist suffered the first blow of the JTF Negros through its 94th Infantry Battalion in an encounter at Sitio Cabangahan, Barangay Bantolinao in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental, and was hit again by the task force’s 62nd Infantry Battalion at Sitio Bugo, Barangay Buenavista in Himamaylan City Negros Occidental on October 6.

“Once again, I am urging the remaining members and leaders of the communist-terrorists in Negros Island to surrender before the iron fist of JTF Negros hits them. We are serious in fulfilling the Negrenses’ clamor to wipe you out, thus, you should give up your senseless armed struggle to avoid death. You only have two options-- submit or suffer the people’s vengeance,” Vinoya said. (JBG/Capt. Cenon Pancito III/3ID-DPAO)
