CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City – The Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) continues to disintegrate as sustained LGU-AFP-PNP convergence through the conduct of inter-agency operations resulted in the capture of two (2) high ranking NPAs, induce mass surrender of a total of 549 NPA regulars, MBs and supporters and recovered 20 high and low powered firearms in Regions 10 and Caraga last week.
Based on the records of the 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division, two (2) high ranking NPA personalities identified as Melissa Comiso alias Meli/Melissa and Nore Torregosa alias Johnny were nabbed during the joint law enforcement operation in Butuan City while 66 regular NPA members, 91 Militia ng Bayan (MB) and 392 Underground Mass Organization (UGMO) surrendered and withdrew their support to the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army (NPA) – National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) from October 2-13, 2019.
The series of operation and surrender resulted in the recovery of (1) 81mm Mortar, (1) KG9, (3) hand grenades, (3) Garand Rifles, (1) M14 rifle, (3) Homemade shot guns, (2) M16 rifles, (4) cal. 45 pistols, (1) Cal.357 and (1) cal. 38 revolver. There were also gadgets such as (3) laptops, (4) cellular phones, (2) tablets and subversive documents.
MGen Franco Nemesio Gacal, Commander of the 4th ID commends the LGUs, PNP and 4ID Commanders for their dedication and continued efforts to finally end insurgency in Regions 10 and CARAGA. He further said that the effective implementation of the EO 70 or the “Whole of the Nation Approach” is resulting in the influx of surrender and the continues destruction of the CNTs “I urge everyone to continue and sustain our support to EO 70 and together we will attain long-lasting, sustainable and inclusive peace and development. We owe this peace to the next generation, let’s end the insurgency problem and have it done during our time,” Gacal ended.
