The Joint Special Operations Group (JSOG) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines will be receiving PhP53.5 million worth of force protection equipment (FPE) from Israeli MAROM Dolphin. The delivery of 1,190 sets of FPEs is expected second quarter of this year.
AFP-JSOG is composed of units from Light Reaction Regiment of Army, Naval Special Operations Group of Navy, Special Operations Wing from Air Force. JSOG also has EOD and K-9 units. It is tasked in conducting Counter-terrorism, Unconventional-Guerrilla, Asymmetrical, and highly specialized operations that no other regular AFP Unit can handle.
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the procurement is through government-to-government contract pursuant to Memorandum of Understanding on Logistics and Defense Industry Cooperation and the Implementing Arrangement for Procurement of Defense Materials with the Israel Ministry of Defense.
“We have prioritized the procurement of these specialized vests for our defenders to enhance their survivability in encounters and battles against terrorists and lawless elements,” Secretary Lorenzana said.
Last week, AFP public affairs office chief Colonel Edgard Arevalo said “we are now in a better position to fight the enemies of the State, we will employ elite units from the Army, Navy, Marines and the Philippine Air Force in the conduct of a surgical focused, deliberate and intelligence-driven combat-civil operations.”
