2 more NPA rebels surrender to gov't troops in Davao Oriental

From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 12): 2 more NPA rebels surrender to gov't troops in Davao Oriental

Wishing to live in peace, two New People's Army (NPA) "Amazons" voluntarily surrendered to the 67th Infantry Battalion in Caraga, Davao Oriental last February 10.

Capt. Rhyan Batchar, 10th Infantry Division public affairs office chief, said the two rebels gave themselves up after a community dialogue in the above-mentioned town.

He identified the two through their aliases as "Joy", 20 and "Rose", 17, both members of Guerilla Front 15.

Troopers from the 67th Infantry Battalion had just finished talking with the 150 displaced families temporarily housed in Caraga Municipal Gymnasium when the two voluntarily submitted themselves.

The displaced families from Barangays Don Leon Balante and PM Sobrecarey of Caraga, Davao Oriental earlier left their homes due to NPA presence in their communities.

This latest surrender brought the total of ten NPA members having returned to the folds of the law due to the relentless combat operations since the lifting of the ceasefire by the government.
