The Quick Impact Projects (QIP) of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to be implemented in Bangsmaoro communities in partnership with the Bangsamoro Transition Commission (BTC) are set for site validation starting this month.

This was learned during the QIP Team Building Workshop participated by top officials of JICA Cotabato City Office, BTC, Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) and the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (CCCH – MILF) in Cotabato City recently.

The BTC Socio-Economic Team together with BDA and MILF CCCH join hands for the site validation process primarily based on needs assessments and consultations with the local government officials, community assembly, MILF military and political hierarchies.

MILF Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim and JICA President Akihiro Tanaka agreed on the quick impact projects in their meeting following the signing of the GPH - MILF Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB) last March 27, 2014 in Malacanang Palace.

QIP intends to make Bangsamoro communities realize the immediate peace dividends of the GPH – MILF CAB through transparent, participatory and inclusive project implementation process.

Shu Nishimaru of JICA said 20 QIPs will be implemented in the provinces of Maguindanao, Cotabato, Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Sulu, Tawi – Tawi, Basilan, Saranggani, Sultan Kudarat, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, and Zamboanga Sibugay.

After the site validation process, the QIP Task Force composed of JICA, BTC and BDA will finalize the project site list to include communities the Moro, indigenous peoples and settlers.
