Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Emmanuel Bautista arrived at the Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom) headquarters in Zamboanga City for the last time on Thursday (July 10) to visit troops before his retirement on July 18.
 
Bautista was given arrival honors at around 9 a.m. Accompanied by WesMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Rustico Guerrero and division commanders.
 
The highest-ranking officer in the AFP addressed the troops and cited the vital role they play in maintaining peace and order in the south.
 
Before this, Bautista also formally launched a radio station of WesMinCom – DXPR-FM.
 
It is envisioned to provide information regarding WesMinCom's peacekeeping efforts and other activiites in Zamboanga and nearby provinces.
 
Bautista, a member of Philippine Military Academy Class '81, will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on July 20. He took over the reins of the AFP in January 2013.
 
Among those considered to replace him are AFP Vice Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Gregorio Catapang and Army chief Lt. Gen. Hernando Iriberri.

  1. The establishment of a WESTMINCOM-run radio station should result in a huge improvement in units the PAO/PSYOP capabilities.

    Other sources indicate that radio station can be heard in Zamboanga at 88.3 MHz and is operated by the 4th Civil Relations Group (CRG) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Civil Relations Service (AFPCRS).

    The 4th CRG is the PSYOP/Public Affairs/Civil Military Operations arm of WESTMINCOM.
