From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 10): 2 unarmed soldiers shot dead by rebels in Compostela Valley

Two unarmed soldiers of the 71st Infantry Battalion were shot dead by New People's Army (NPA) rebels in Compostela Valley early morning Thursday, military authorities said.

This took place around 3 a.m. in Barangay Anitapan, Mabini town, of the above-mentioned province, Capt. Ernest Carolina, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson, said.

He added that the victims, identified as Pvts. Jerwin Teodoro and Reyned Pasadao.

The two are newly assigned soldiers in the 71st Infantry Battalion and still undergoing immersion in Barangay Anitapan.

The two were both shot in the back with a .45 caliber pistol.

Carolina said that the victims were on their way back to their patrol base in Barangay Anitapan after attending some community festivities when gunned down.

Pursuit operations were still ongoing as this posting.
