With President Benigno S. Aquino III’s State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) just two weeks away, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala expressed hope that the Chief Executive will continue with his earlier efforts to modernize the military.
”We are looking forward that the President will mention modernization, the upgrading of the AFP in terms of raising a minimum credible defense, we're looking forward that he will mention and then give the direction towards the AFP when it comes to threats, the use of these equipment,” he added.
As this develops, Zagala said that they are still to detect to any threats in connection with the SONA.
”As far as threats are concerned, we are still to detect any,” he added.
The AFP public affairs office chief also stressed that security preparations for the SONA will be managed by the Philippine National Police with the military providing additional forces if needed.
