3ID continues call for peace

From the Visayan Daily Star (Jul 7): 3ID continues call for peace

The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division continues to call for peace, even after the recent encounter in Bais City, Negros Oriental, that claimed the lives of an Army soldier and a suspected member of the New People’s Army.

The 3ID commander, Maj. Gen. Aurelio Baladad, said in a statement he issued, “This armed struggle has only brought death and suffering and continues to deny our people’s desire to have a peaceful life and developed communities”.

“Abandon the armed struggle now and let us work together in peacefully solving our problems,” he added.

The slain soldier was identified as PFC Marlon Lanes, but the identity of the dead rebel has not yet been established.

Baladad expressed his sympathies to the family and friends of the slain soldier, stressing that his heroism and sacrifices will not be in vain.

He also expressed his sympathies to the family and relatives of the NPA rebel, who was killed.

“It is very tragic that he had taken arms against the people of Negros when only through peace can development and social justice be achieved,” Baladad said.
