Two policemen, including a deputy police chief, were injured after being hit by shrapnel from exploded improvised landmines yesterday in Sitio Candida 2, Brgy. Bi-ao, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental.
Suffering minor injuries were PLt. Charles Richard Casalan, deputy police chief of Binalbagan, and PCpl. Tranquillero, also of the Binalbagan Police Station.
PLt. Col. Arnel Solis, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6, yesterday said that a team of Binalbagan policemen led by Casalan, on board a police patrol vehicle, responded to the reported discovery of a dead person at Sitio Nursery in Brgy. Bi-ao, Binalbagan.

Upon reaching Sitio Candida 2 in the barangay, Solis disclosed that an IED exploded along the roadside, which led to injuries to the two police personnel of Binalbagan.
Casalan and Tranquillero were brought to the Binalbagan Infirmary for treatment of their minor injuries.
Maj. Gary Alan Resuma, PNP Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group chief of Region 6, yesterday said that his team recovered two unexploded IEDs with electrical wirings and five containers filled with water at the scene of incident.
Resuma disclosed that two IEDs placed at the roadside were detonated by NPA rebels when the police patrol vehicle passed by the area
Brig. Gen.Inocencio Pasaporte, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, disclosed that about 12 suspected NPA rebels were involved in the ambush and detonation of landmines that led to the injuries of two police personnel.
After a five-minute firefight, Pasaporte said the rebels fled towards Sitios of Apitong and Namulo, all in Brgy. Bi-ao, Binalbagan.
Army soldiers and troopers of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company are still pursuing the fleeing rebels as of this time.
