The Marine Exercise 2022 Philippines (MAREX 22 PH) between the Philippine Marine Corps and the United States Marine Corps (USMC) officially ended with a virtual closing ceremony graced by the Flag Officer in Command, Philippine Navy, VAdm. Adeluis S. Bordado PN, as the Guest of Honor and Speaker on February 2, 2022.

Conducted from January 28-31, 2022, MAREX 22 PH included jungle operations subject matter expert exchange, insertion techniques, beachmaster management, combined amphibious planning, drills, execution using the USMC’s landing craft air cushion, and ship visit in the Western Command area of responsibility in Palawan.

In Tawi-Tawi under the Western Mindanao Command, the exercise included extensive humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) training, medical subject matter expert exchange, visit, board, search, seizure, jungle operations, casualty evacuation, close quarter training, boat raid, and vertical assaults using USMC’s MV-22 Osprey Tiltrotor.

“We achieved the objectives of the exercise with the various activities conducted under MAREX 22 PH. We were able to strengthen and improve both countries’ readiness in crisis response, littoral and coastal defense operations, and combined interoperability in internal security, counter-terrorism, and HADR operations. MAREX 22 PH is one of the most productive combined exercises of the Philippines because it contributes to the Philippine Marine Corps’ goal of becoming a highly capable amphibious force in readiness for archipelagic defense,” said VAdm. Bordado.

“MAREX is important to both of our nations. By training together, we boost our joint ability to enhance mission defense and respond to natural disasters. I believe this exercise and future exercises like it will provide an opportunity for the Philippine Marine Corps Coastal Defense Regiment and our future Marine Littoral Regiment to train together to further develop our capability towards increased interoperability,” said Lt. Gen. Steven R. Rudder, Commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific.

The virtual closing ceremony was also attended by local government officials, 2nd and 3rd Brigade Commanders, Commanders of the Joint Areas of Operations in Western Mindanao Command and Western Command, Commanders of USMC Marine Forces Pacific, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Battalion Landing Team 1/1, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 165, Marine Attack Squadron 214, Combat Logistics Battalion 11, Amphibious Squadron One, and heads of the US Maritime assets.
