CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela- Three supporters abandoned the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and surrendered low-powered firearm and war materiel to the government troops in Barangay Isca, Gonzaga, Cagayan on February 03, 2022.
Alias Riting, 42 years old, and Alias Lando”, 44 years old, both residents of Barangay Isca, Gonzaga, Cagayan and Alias Paquito, 45 years old, of Barangay Mission, Sta Teresita, Cagayan decided to return to the folds of the law through the combined efforts of 98th Infantry Battalion and Marine Battalion Landing Team under the 501st Infantry Brigade and local police.
According to the surrenderees, they are tired of the lies and deceits of the terrorist organization. “Gusto na naming mamuhay ng normal at malayo sa panganib na hatid ng mga teroristang NPA. Halos araw araw hindi namin mawari kung ligtas ba kami at ang aming mga pamilya.”
In a statement, LtC Abraham M Gallangi Jr, Commanding Officer ng 98IB, said that the successful surrender of the three CTG supporters is the result of the continuous cooperation and support of the residents of Gonzaga, Cagayan in the campaign against the Communist Terrorist Group.
They also surrendered one caliber 38 revolver, 78 rounds ammunition for Garand rifle, ammunition blasting caps, a radio, CTG flag, assorted medicines, and medical supplies that were issued and entrusted to them by the terrorist Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).
MGen Laurence E Mina, Commander of 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army lauded 98IB and MBLT10 under 501st Infantry Brigade for their sustained effort to free Cagayan from insurgency. He also thanked the CTG for choosing the right path. “Nagpapasalamat kami sa pakikiisa ninyo sa kampanya ng ating pamahalaan laban sa mga teroristang NPA. Sama-sama nating hikayatin ang mga natitira pang sumusuporta sa teroristang grupo at pagtulungan nating isulong ang kapayapaan at pag unlad sa probinsya ng Cagayan.”
