FORT MAGSAYSAY, Nueva Ecija — Following the implementation of the programs under Executive Order No. 70 of the government, four female members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) have submitted themselves to the authorities along with their firearms in Ilocos Norte on February 7, 2022.
Major General Andrew D. Costelo PA, Commander of the 7th Infantry (KAUGNAY) Division, Philippine Army identified the female CTG personalities as alias “Ligaya”, “Teresa”, “Elvie” and “Marinel” who were residents of Marcos, Vintar, and Carasi Ilocos Norte, respectively.
They surrendered along with one (1) M14 rifle; one (1) US Remington Model 03-03; and one (1) homemade shotgun.
Combined elements of Ilocos Norte PNP and troops of 24th Infantry (WILDCAT) Battalion, Philippine Army facilitated their surrender at Marcos and Carasi Municipal Police Stations.
The four personalities revealed during the interview that they were recruited during the era of renegade Catholic Priest Father Conrado Balweg and went on lie-low upon realizing that the government is sincere in putting an end to the communist insurgency through the ‘whole-of-nation’ approach.
The Commander of 702nd Infantry (DEFENDER) Brigade BGen Krishnamurti A. Mortela welcomed the surrender of the four female CTG members and encouraged them to support the peace and development initiatives of the government now that they are free from the influence of the terrorist organization.
Meanwhile, MGen Costelo reiterates his call to the remaining members of the CTG to join their comrades in a free community that advocates peace and development.
“We will be relentless in our efforts as we conduct our Focused Military Operations. Our call for their surrender remains but we will not back down in fight as we are committed to ending this as soon as possible time,” said MGen Costelo.
