From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 9, 2022): Cop in hot water for shooting Navy vehicle in Palawan (By Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Gen. Dionardo Carlos, on Wednesday ordered a probe into the police officer who was accused of shooting a Philippine Navy vehicle at the North National Highway of Barangay Bacungan, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on February 7.

In a statement, Carlos said the suspect identified as Cpl. John Vincent Ugalde Lontok is now under police custody after he surrendered to Police Station 2 of the Puerto Princesa Police Office (PPCPO) and turned over his issued firearm, a-9mm Glock 17 with ammunition.

He will be subjected to ballistics examination and paraffin test at the PPCPO Forensic Unit.

Initial reports revealed that Ugalde was onboard a Black Toyota Wigo vehicle while traversing the highway. Suddenly, a Philippine Navy-multicab driven by Christian Bustillo, a seaman apprentice, overtook his vehicle.

Bustillo alleged that after getting past the Wigo, he just heard the continuous blowing of horns from the vehicle. He heard was a gunshot that hit the right rear wheel of the multicab.

Aside from Bustillo, another Philippine Navy personnel inside the multi-cab sustained minor injuries when their service vehicle crashed following the shooting.

Carlos said the PNP’s Internal Service Affairs is also investigating the incident.
