From Panay News (Jan 15, 2022): Rebels, gov’t troops clash in Tapaz brgy (By Ruby P. Silubrico)
Soldiers of the Philippine Army’s 82nd Infantry Battalion (82IB) encountered New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barangay Taganghin, Tapaz, Capiz.
There was a short exchange of fire at around 10 a.m. on Thursday, according to Army Captain Kim Apitong, spokesperson of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID).The rebels retreated after 15 minutes of gunfire.
“No casualties in the government forces but there could be casualties on the NPA side,” said Apitong.
This was the second Army-NPA encounter this month. On Jan. 9, troops of the 82IB and 15 rebels clashed in Sitio Masnang, Barangay Marandig, Calinog, Iloilo. It lasted for some 25 minutes until the rebels retreated.
Recovered from the encounter site were an anti-personnel land mine with some 30-meter long tripwires, four short and one long magazines of an M16 with ammunition, four backpacks, medical paraphernalia, subversive documents, and personal belongings.
“Ito po resulta ng ating tactical operations. Ang mga tao na mismo nagbibigay ng information sa atin about the presence of the NPA,” Apitong said.
