Talipao, Sulu – The rido erupted in an unfortunate event between the Latip and Muallam Family on March 27, 2021 at Brgy Upper Binuang, Talipao, Sulu. The incident resulted to the death of three persons, including the Barangay Chairman of Upper Binuang and his brother. The feud was just settled on June 2, 2021 with the assistance of the Army’s 2nd Special Forces Battalion with the collaboration of LGU Talipao.

The settlement of the feud was held at the Municipal Hall of Talipao, Sulu after the two (2) families involved opted for an amicable settlement. Initial peace talks were made to contain the conflict on May 24, 2021 at Brgy Upper Binuang, Talipao with elements of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion, Sulu Provincial Police Office, and LGU Talipao as the officiating party. Talipao noted that “as the head of this Municipality, we will, by any means, resolve conflict in the most peaceful way in accordance with the teachings of Islam. Violence has no place in Islam.” Furthermore, Lt. Col. Jooney Jay R Busiños, Commander, 2nd Special Forces Battalion, sees the settlement as a welcoming sight of peace and development in the area. “As we move towards progress and development, let us not use force and violence to spoil our hard-earned peace.

Let us allow harmony and understanding to reign.” In addition, the rido halted the construction of a road networks connecting Upper and Lower Binuang. With the successful settlement, the project can now be resume, taking the municipality a step further in development. Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Antonio I Bautista Jr, Commander of the 1101st Infantry Brigade, regards the peaceful resolution of the conflict as a “step in the right direction”.

“No one else seeks peace but our military, police, and our people. There is nothing good that can bring us violence, especially in a community. We are all Filipinos – we are all brothers and sisters,” he stated. To this date, the 2nd Special Forces Battalion is stepping up efforts to contain violence and resolve conflicts in pursuit of peace and development in the Province of Sulu.
