Mawab, Davao de Oro – The 10th Infantry “Agila” Division initiated the localized peace engagement in active participation with the local chief executives and communities resulted in the neutralization of 18 communist terrorist rebels in Davao Del Norte and North Cotabato on May 20 to June 1, 2021.

Another (8) eight members voluntarily surrendered on May 29, 2021, from Guerilla Front 55 and the Sub-Regional Guerrilla Unit (SRGU). They submit themselves without firearms to the 56th Infantry Battalion as a result of localized peace engagement initiatives of the provincial government and their relatives in Barangay Palma Gil in Talaingod, Davao Del Norte.

Among the surrenderors are;

@LAPONG (PSRL), Team Leader of Abe, Iskwad Segunda, GF 55, SRC 5, SMRC;
@ANGELIE (NPSRL), Platoon Medic of GF 55, SRC 5, SMRC;
@ANA (NPSRL), Supply Officer of Iskwad Segunda, GF 55, SRC 5, SMRC;
@BONG (PSRL), member of Iskwad Primera, SRGU, SRC 5, SMRC;
@ARJAY (PSRL), Team Leader of Baking, Iskwad Segunda, Platun Basil, SRGU, SRC 5, SMRC;
@JANJAN (PSRL), Giyang Pampulitika of Iskwad Segunda, Platun Basil, SRGU, SRC 5, SMRC; and
@JINJIN (PSRL), Medic of Iskwad Segunda, Platun Basil, SRGU, SRC 5, SMRC.

Furthermore, Alias Dan-dan, a member Yunit Milisya surrendered on June 1, 2021, to 56th Infantry Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Norman Valdez along with one (1) M16A1 Elisco rifle and one (1) plastic magazine assembly with seven (7) rounds cartridges Cal 5.56mm ball.

Likewise, in North Cotabato on May 20 in the same year, troops of the 39th Infantry Battalion apprehended the group of Alias Maruz under Pulang Bagani Command/GF51 along with six others after a series of encounters in Brgy. New Israel in Makilala followed by the surrender of two other members on May 21, 2021, and afterward presented to 10th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Ernesto C Torres Jr and North Cotabato Governor Nancy Catamco in a press conference.

The surrenderors yielded nine high-powered firearms and several war materials with a total of 10 high-powered firearms recovered from both neutralized rebels from 56th IB in Davao Del Norte and 39IB in Makilala, North Cotabato.

10th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Ernesto C Torres Jr lauded the troops from both 56th and 39th Infantry Battalion on the series of neutralization of communist terrorist groups.

Maj. Gen. Torres also said that the series of surrender is a manifestation of trust towards the government and the troops attributed to the success of the localized peace engagement initiatives by numerous provincial governments together with the army.

“It is very clear that our programs and services in the government are being felt and heard even to the farthest hinterlands inside Agila Division’s area of responsibility. The surrender of 18 rebels is an indicator of the success of peace initiatives by local chief executives and the army under the helm of Executive Order no 70. I urge the remaining rebels to unite with the government in rebuilding the nation from the 53 years of suffering the CPP-NPA-NDF has brought.”
