From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 22, 2021): Cop, 3 civilians, hurt in NPA bomb attack (By Mar Serrano)
A policeman and three civilians were wounded when an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels exploded along the national highway in Barangay Putiao, Pilar town in Sorsogon province on Monday.
Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Police Regional Office (PRO-5) spokesperson, said Police Corporal Jeffry Enconge Putian and the three other victims, who are yet to be identified, were rushed to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching and Hospital (BRTTH) for treatment.
The police said the rebels intended to ambush the Philippine National Police (PNP) truck loaded with 11 policemen from the 92nd Special Action Command bound for Camp Simeon Ola headquarters.
The police personnel were able to retaliate and engage the rebels in a brief firefight, prompting the communist terrorists to flee.
Clearing operations are still being conducted in the area as of this posting.
Brig. Gen. Bartolome Bustamante, PRO-5 regional director, in a statement, condemned the latest atrocity perpetrated by the communist terrorist group (CTG), whose true objective is to sow chaos and disorder in the community.
He called on the public to "resist CTGs and cooperate with authorities to help end the threat of insurgency in Bicol".
