A top leader of the lawless Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Maguindanao has surrendered to the military, the chief of the Army’s 6th Infantry Division (6ID) said Wednesday.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, 6ID commander and chief of Joint Task Force Central, said alias Nodz, the self-styled BIFF-Karialan faction chief-of-staff, was presented before him on Tuesday afternoon in Camp Siongco, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.
Uy said the surrender of the BIFF leader was facilitated by Shariff Aguak Mayor Marop Ampatuan through the Army’s 33rd Infantry Battalion (33IB).
“I am tired of being a rebel. I want to live in peace,” Nodz said in the vernacular during a brief radio interview. The surrenderer yielded with him his M14 rifle.
"The surrender of Nodz is attributed to the continuous partnership of the 6ID and the local government units in consonance to the peace efforts of the government in this part of the country,” Uy said.
More than 40 BIFF combatants have also surrendered to the military in the last two weeks.
