ILOILO CITY, Aug. 10 (PIA) - - The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) – Iloilo will formally turn over agriculture-related skills trainings and scholarship grants to 50 identified beneficiaries in Barangay Boloc in Tubungan town on Tuesday, August 11.

The simple turn over ceremony which will be held at the town’s covered gym will highlight the launching of a convergence program spearheaded by TESDA -Iloilo, the lead agency of the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster (PRLEC) in the province under Executive Order No. 70 which created the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

Amid challenges from coronavirus disease 2019, TESDA Iloilo PRLEC Focal Person Agnes Dimzon said TESDA and other PRLEC member agencies are determined to bring government services to vulnerable villages such as Boloc to help residents become productive by pursuing livelihood and finding employment in line with the continued effort of the government to attain sustainable and inclusive peace in the countryside.

Boloc, is one of the villages identified as insurgency affected in the province under the Retooled Community Support Program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Of the 50 beneficiaries, 25 will be provided free training on organic agriculture production and 25 on grain production under the agency’s Training for Work Scholarship program. Most of the residents in the village are into vegetable farming.

The trainings, which will start anytime soon, will be conducted by the Regional Training Center – Iloilo and New Lucena Polytechnic College, all TESDA training institutions.

Dimzon said some residents of the village will also benefit from the construction related trainings such as masonry NCI, Carpentry NC II and shielded metal arc welding NC I which will be implemented in January next year.

The trainings are in support to the proposed infrastructure projects identified by the village and submitted to concerned PRLEC member agencies. Some of these proposed project are the construction of a school building and health center and access road from Boloc to the town.

Dimzon said there are also requests for skills trainings in other towns in the province such as Maasin and Calinog and they are currently facilitating them. Maasin and Calinog are included in the list of municipalities in Iloilo province affected by insurgency. (JSC/laf/PIA6 Iloilo)
