The NPA-Southern Mindanao Region (NPA-SMR) reported that AFP forces carried out aerial bombing runs in upland villages in the town of Mabini in Davao de Oro last March 18, two days after Rodrigo Duterte declared a unilateral ceasefire.
This was revealed to the public yesterday by Rigoberto Sanchez, NPA-SMR spokesperson. He disclosed that around 10 combat aircrafts were used to conduct aerial bombardment which started at 4 a.m. and lasted until late afternoon. It targeted several farms and houses in Barangay Cabuyuan of the said town, forcing 50 families to scramble to safety.
“Already anxious of the unfolding pandemic, the masses’ situation was made worse by the indiscriminate aerial bombardment and shelling,” Sanchez said. “(This) pushed them to evacuate to the nearby lowland barrios, and rendered them all the more vulnerable to the disease.”
“The residents reported that the enemy bombed the vicinity no less than 20 times,” Sanchez said. Days later, six civilians were reportedly arrested and taken to the enemy’s detachment by operating ground troops.
To justify this atrocity, the 1001st Infantry Brigade falsely claimed that its troops engaged NPA fighters in the vicinity.
“No such armed engagement occurred that day,” Sanchez added.
