MANILA, Jan. 18 -- President Rodrigo Roa Duterte made a renewed call to the personnel of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) to intensify the campaign against terrorism and lawlessness as he led Thursday the Change of Command ceremony of the service in Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.
“I now enjoin our troops to sustain the fight against terrorism and other acts of lawlessness under the leadership of the PAF’s new Commanding General, Major General Allen T. Paredes,” President Duterte said in his speech during the Change of Command rites.
“Under his direction and guidance, I hope that you will embody strength and fortitude in ensuring lasting peace in our homeland.”
The President assured PAF that his administration will continue to boost the morale, efficiency, and responsiveness of the air force through continuous capacity building and other meritorious initiatives.
PAF will receive significant allocation as the government continues to modernize the country’s Armed forces under the Second Horizon of the Revised AFP Modernization Program, the President said.
“You can rest assured that our country is behind you as you bravely soar to greater heights in order to secure genuine and lasting peace for the benefit of the Filipinos.”
Commending PAF in his address, President Duterte said the air force made invaluable contributions and accomplishments in the areas of internal security operations, disaster response, as well as its strong support to law enforcement and peacekeeping efforts.
It played a crucial role in the nation’s internal security operations by providing air assets, assistance in air and ground operations and close personnel support to ground troops, most especially during engagements against the Abu Sayyaf and other terrorist groups, he noted.
The Chief Executive also praised outgoing PAF chief Lt. Gen. Rozzano D. Briguez for his outstanding tour of duty as the commanding general of PAF and for his years of distinguished service.
“General Briguez, we thank you for your trailblazing leadership that further enabled the PAF to fulfill its vital role in our whole-of-nation approach towards achieving security and inclusive development of our country,” he told the outgoing PAF chief, whose retirement ceremony was also held during Thursday’s event.
The President announced that he appointed General Briguez to head the exploration division of the Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC).
Maj. Gen. Allen Paredes, the new PAF head, is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class “Maringal” of 1988 and has served PAF for 36 years.
Prior to his appointment as PAF chief, he became the commander of PAF’s Air Logistics Command, chief of Air Staff, and wing commander of the 250th Presidential Airlift Wing.
He also served as director of Air Force Safety Office and group commander of the Tactical Operations Group 10 in Cagayan de Oro City. (PND)
