CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela -- Seven former New People’s Army rebels were given on Friday financial assistance, two of them were compensated for their surrendered guns under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the government, the military said.
The handing over of the financial assistance was held at the Balai Na Isabela at the Provincial Capitol.
Col. Gladiuz Calilan, 95th Infantry Battalion commander, said the former rebels, whose names were withheld for security reasons, were led by Ka Ronnie, leader of the Team Explo of the Central Front-Kilusang Rebolusyonaryo-Cagayan Valley operating in eastern and central Isabela.
Each rebel received PHP15,000 check and PHP50,000-worth livelihood assistance while two of the rebels also got additional PHP90,000 each for their surrendered M-16 Armalite rifles.
“Other long-term benefits for these rebels will be given and these are in the process,” Calilan said in an interview on Saturday.
Isabela Governor Rodolfo Albano III said the provincial officials are thankful for the former rebels as “they returned to normal life.”
“We hope that this is the start of your good (life), living away from the mountains. We are willing to provide jobs if you need,” he added.
