The Army group deployed more combat troops on Thursday to beef up pursuing troops in Zapanta Valley.
The air and ground strike conducted by the ground troops of the 402nd Brigade also resulted to
the neutralization of other satellites and monitoring areas of the CPP-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (CPP-NPA NEMRC).
“The operations started Nov. 20 when our pursuing troops engaged an estimated 70 CNTs in Zapanta Valley,” said 402nd Brigade commanding general Brig. Gen. Maurito L. Licudine, in an exclusive interview with The Manila Bulletin on Wednesday.
He said the pursuing troops engaged the enemy line that resulted in a fierce gunfight last Wednesday.
Wide pursuit operation is still ongoing in the Mount Ilong-Ilong and Diwata mountain ranges towards Andap Complex, the top Army brigade commander said.
The first engagement happened in the provincial boundary of Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur.
Brig. Gen. Licudine ordered ground army commanders in the area to check the reported information from villagers that 10 CNTs were killed and scores were wounded during the past one week skirmishes in the area.
“We are still verifying this report (killed and wounded CNTs),” said the 402nd Brigade commander.
The Brigade commander also confirmed that this Brigade operation is being assisted by the attack gunship helicopters of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) strike wing and Artillery Battallion.
“They are our back up force to our pursuing ground troops,” Brig. Gen. Licudine said.
