Combined troops of the 34th Infantry Battalion and the Midsayap Municipal Police Station encountered with armed lawless groups (ALG) in Barangay Kapinpilan, Midsayap, North Cotabato on Tuesday afternoon, April 30, 2019.
The team responded to a report of gunfire between two warring ALGs under Mama Macalimbol and Dule Dulua of the 105th Base Command.
Accordingly, at around 1:30 pm, clash between the two groups erupted 500 meters away from the Patrol Base of the 34IB’s Alpha Company.
The government troops immediately responded to the clash site but were unfortunately, fired upon by the armed groups prompting them to retaliate.
The 15 minute firefight resulted to the apprehension of an ALG member who was slightly wounded.
Seized from Marlon Gemalo were one M14 rifle, magazines and ammunitions.
Joint Task Force Central commander, Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana said that the 6th Infantry Division will not allow warring factions and other armed lawless groups to thrive in his area of responsibility as this will inhibit the peace and order in the peace-loving community of municipality of Midsayap.
He also commended the troops for their bravery in responding to the scene of the fire fight that prevented it to escalate further in the community.
The apprehended person and recovered items were turned over to Midsayap PNP for filing of appropriate charges and proper disposition.
