CAMP GUILLERMO NAKAR, Lucena City, Quezon (DWDD) – The troops of the 1st Infantry Battalion (1IB) clashed against more or less 20 New People’s Army under Platoon 4A1 of Sub-Regional Military Area 4A1, Southern Tagalog Party Committee (STRPC) in Sitio Cabungahan, Mauban, Quezon last August 12, 2018.
According to reports, the encounter occurred when a platoon led by 2nd Lt. Acmad went to the area to verify reports from civilians that a group of Communist terrorists was planning to burn the constructions equipment in Real- Mauban road project. The firefight lasted for 30 minutes.
Two soldiers were wounded but are now in stable condition, while an undetermined numbers of casualties were inflicted on the enemy side due to blood stains in the encounter site. The pursuing soldiers recovered one (1) M16 rifle along the withdrawal route of the enemy.
Major General Rhoderick M Parayno AFP, Commander, 2ID said that “The NPAs are attacking civilians. They don’t want development to reach the communities as this will limit their movement. Hitting soft targets will cover their weaknesses. This is their way of projecting strength. We will run after them”.
Lieutenant General Danilo G Pamonag AFP, Commander, SOLCOM expressed his appreciation to the support coming from the civilians who are fed up with the atrocities perpetrated by the CPP-NPA terrorists.
Once again, Lt Gen Pamonag reiterated his appeal to the terrorist leaders to leave behind their injured members to the local officials so the AFP could provide them medical attention. SOLCOM / MCAG
