CAMP GEN. CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal – Major Gen. Rhoderick M. Parayno, commander of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, has thanked the media for supporting and helping the military sustain and improve its satisfactory rating and earn the trust of the Filipino people in the government and the military.

Parayno, who organized and hosted the two-day “Media Seminar Workshop and Fellowship 2018” that culminated here Thursday, also expressed optimism that the fellowship would further deepen and prosper the harmonious relations and teamwork between the military and media.

“This is an opportunity for you to know better your counterparts in the different areas and units engaged in information and communications and the civil-military operations of the 2ID and refresh your skills, share your knowledge and gain new experience to improve performance in your respective jobs as communicators,” he said.

The military official thanked some 60 government and private media practitioners from the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon, as well as Mindoro Oriental, Mindoro Occidental, Marinduque and Romblon for travelling all the way here to join the media-military seminar and fellowship events.

The media fellowship activities kicked off Wednesday with lecture presentations on basic photography/videography, news writing, media and AFP relations, mobile journo (mojo) digital video-photo coverage, media-sharing expertise, and experience with military counterparts.

Both media and military public affairs and information officers engaged in a shoot fest, assembly and disassembly of firearms, obstacle course, object map reading and tracking, fun games, and media night reception hosted by Parayno, army top brass and civil-military operations (J7) commander, Lt. Col. Rey Pasco, and Capt. Patrick Jay Retumban of the 2ID Public Affairs Office.

Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General, Undersecretary Harold E. Clavite, graced the two-day event and took time out to join media night, which featured games and musical performances by the 2ID band.

Parayno said these past years, the 2ID has been successful in all its undertakings to accomplish its mandate to serve and secure the people in its areas of coverage.

“Our gains in the upkeep of peace and development in our areas were not single-handedly done by our soldiers. Your (media) continued support as one of our active partners and stakeholders made all these possible,” he said.

“Kayo ang aming naging katuwang upang magkaroon ng positive image at maipakita sa ating kapwa mamamayan, na ang ating institusyon ay laging handa na tugunan ang kanilang pangangailangan at bantayan ang kanilang kaligtasan at kapayapaan (You are our partners in projecting a positive image and show to the public that our institution is always ready to respond to their needs and safeguard their security),” he added.

Parayno expressed appreciation to the 2ID press corps, through its president Pau Mojar, and the Calabarzon and Mindoro press organizations as their partners.
