From the Philippine Information Agency (Mar 26): Pres. Duterte assures welfare of policemen’s families at 38th PNPA commencement exercises
“The government will be with you as you fight in the frontlines for that dream of a better tomorrow and safer Philippines.”, remarked President Rodrigo Duterte yesterday at the 38th Commencement exercises of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Masidlak Class of 2017 at the Gen. Cicero C. Campos Grandstand in Silang, Cavite.
The event marks the first time that President Duterte attended the PNPA graduation rites in his term as he urged the new police officers to do the right thing and follow the rules.
“Fight for the country, do it right. You have been lectured on the rules on how to do it. Do it right.”, he stated.
President Duterte recognized the risks that policemen and women take as they perform their duties and took time to acknowledge the fallen comrades as he said, “More than just policemen and women, let us remember that those brave souls who were also family members who selflessly laid down their lives to see a better tomorrow for the present and future generation.”
“We owe it to them, to ourselves, to our children to ensure that their sacrifice will not be in vain. That they died so (we may) have peace and order and stability for our country today,” President Duterte added
The war against drugs and criminality had claimed the lives of law enforcers but the President vowed not to allow them to become mere statistics.
He also assured the PNPA graduates that he would protect them and will take care of their families as he was planning to set up a trust fund worth “billions’.
The President further revealed, “That is why we have increased the combat pay and incentives for our PNP uniformed personnel,” adding that he has issued directives to provide assistance to the immediate families of fallen police personnel and their wives will be given jobs in the government.
President Duterte was joined by Vice President Leni Robredo, Interior Secretary Ismael Sueno and other high ranking officials at the event.
