Seven soldiers from the Philippine Army's 32nd Infantry
Battalion were wounded while an undetermined number of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG)
bandits were killed and wounded in an attack on the Army headquarters in
Patikul town, Sulu province Tuesday night.
Joint Task Group commander Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado said an
estimated 150 ASG bandits instigated the assault on the military facility at
8:15 p.m. and lasted for more than an hour.
Initial reports said ASG sub-leader Radullan Sahiron led the
attack but further investigation revealed that another bandit leader, Tistah
Hussein, with 50 other followers, participated in the assault.
The goal of the ASG was to recover firearms seized from
their relatives during military operations last Nov. 26, Arrojado said.
With the failure of the assault, the ASGs, particularly
Hussein's group, fled towards the direction of Barangays Kabuntakas and
Panglayahan.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing as ASG bandits led by
Sahiron are still in the 32nd Infantry Battalion's area of operation.
Arrojado said all government troopers wounded in the
engagement are in good condition at Kutang
Heneral Teodulfo
Bautista Station
Hospital in Jolo town.
