PNP Chief Ricardo Marquez deployed some 88 Special Action Force (SAF) Team in
Samar to arrest the spate of violent situation in Samar especially in Calbayog City
The shooting incidents have led some netizens to call the city ‘Killbayog’ instead of Calbayog, to which Mayor Ronald Aquino and Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento of DILG felt slighted.
“Please do not call our city ‘killbayog,’” Aquino pleaded to the media. Today too, with the presence of PNP Chief Marquez, Sarmiento expressed the same sentiment.
Sarmiento urged the members of the civil society who came for a consultation with him and the Chief PNP to help each other bring back the time in Calbayog, sometime in the 90’s when the politicians can campaign peacefully and feel totally secure.
As Marquez faced the media and the civil society today, he asked them, if they ‘feel the presence’ of the security forces at work.
As the audience seemed silent, Marquez assured them that his team composed of generals and high ranking police officers will focus on Samar to make peace happen.
“We are committed and dedicated to solve this problem,” referring to the violence in the city.
The Chief PNP said they will employ deliberate effort to solve the crimes by waging a resolute campaign to operate on loose firearms, focused campaign on wanted persons and guns for hire.
The problem on the peace and order situation in the city has prompted the police leadership to focus on the area.
The 88 special action force team will be deployed early next year while the city is presently constructing their barracks.
He assured the Samarnons that with their help and cooperation, the police will be able to neutralize the criminals and bring justice to the victims of violence.
Just yesterday afternoon, despite the presence of PNP and army officials, a fish vendor was shot to death by an unidentified gunman.
