The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is digging deeper into the extortion activity as motive of the van explosion but would not reveal details of the follow up investigation it is pursuing against one person of interest captured on CCTV footage disembarking from the UV Express passenger van outside the SM Van Terminal.

The van driver, 50-year-old Herman Daag was unhurt but he was under observation by the Central 911 medical team after his blood pressure shoot up.

The passenger van left Pikit, North Cotabato province at 5 a.m. yesterday and arrived in Davao City at 9:30 a.m. After dropping off the last three passengers including one male in front of SM City Davao Van Terminal and two inside the terminal, the driver and his conductor drove towards Times Beach area but when it passed through the gate of Ecoland 4000 Residences Condominium along Eco West drive, the right back portion of the van exploded.

Besanes was still able to drive the van some 100 meters away from the Condominium’s gate.

Police authorities are getting support in its investigation from the Philippine Army.

Eastern Mindanao Command spokesperson Alberto Caber said all troops are on full alert since last week. The Task Force Davao has also intensified checks of all public utility vehicles at the border checkpoints and further added more checkpoints to secure the city.
