The Commission on Appointments confirms the promotion of Army Major General Edmundo Pangilinan
PROMOTED. Major General Edmundo Pangilinan
The Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday, June 10, finally confirmed the promotion of Army Major General Edmundo Pangilinan.
He is the
commander of the Maguindanao-based 6th Infantry Division.
Senator Alan
Cayetano blocked his promotion in March over questions regarding his
decision to withhold artillery fire that the senator believed could have
saved the elite cops decimated in the ill-fated January 25 operation inside the
territory of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Mamasapano.
The cops
stealthily penetrated the MILF territory to kill international terrorist
Zulkifly bin Hir or "Marwan," who had been hiding among them. But the
cops were trapped by various armed groups on their way out, resulting in 44
deaths.
Pangilinan said
the cops were unable to provide complete information to guarantee that there'll
be no collateral damage if they fire artillery. Pangilinan blamed it on lack of
coordination.
