An alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf who was reportedly involved in the 2000 kidnapping of tourists from the Malaysian resort of Sipadan and another kidnapping at a pearl farm in 2001 was arrested in Zamboanga City Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, police arrested the alleged leader of a criminal ring in Davao del Sur and seized a cache of firearms to boot.
Colonel Adrelino Colina, commander of the military’s Task Force Zamboanga, said Nabil Tahali Idjiran, alias “Abu Darren,” allegedly a member of the Ajilul group, a small gang of around 14 members, is facing murder charges related to the two kidnappings.
Colina said Idjiran was “disguised” as a fish vendor when he was arrested by a joint team of Task Force Zamboanga and local police in Pahawag, Baliwasan around 10:35 a.m.
The suspect was unarmed and did not resist arrest, he added.
In Davao del Sur, operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Maritime Group collared Walter Miano Sr. who allegedly leads the “Loloy Miano Group” during raids on targets in Sitio Kiawit, Barangay Zone 2, and Sitio Goma in Sta. Cruz.
Senior Superintendent Joel Pernito, chief of the CIDG in the Davao ragion, said the raiders also seized 10 .38 caliber revolvers, three air guns, a marble rifle, ammunition and gun making tools.
