NPA rebels free abducted Army sergeant in Compostela Valley

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 23): NPA rebels free abducted Army sergeant in Compostela Valley

A military man abducted by New People's Army (NPA) rebels last April 4 was released on Wednesday at Barangay Casoon, Monkayo town, Compostela Valley Province.

Capt. Ernest Carolina, spokesperson of the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division, said Sgt. Jeric Curay was released at around noontime.

Efforts to free the soldier from his NPA captors were spearheaded by Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Carolina said.

Curay was abducted at Barangay Andap, Laak, Compostela Valley Province in the morning of April 4. He was unarmed at that time.

"His abduction was a CARHRIHL (Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law) violation. Curay will undergo physical and psychological stress debriefing by the Camp Panacan Station Hospital for further evaluation," Carolina said.
