The Philippine Navy's newly acquired warship, BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PF16), arrived in the Philipine Area of Responsibility (PAR) 1 am Thursday, August 1, according to Navy spokesman Lt Commander Gregory Fabic.
PAR specifically refers to the area where the government weather bureau is tasked to monitor cyclones. The ship will arrive in Philippine waters on Friday, August 2.
"Festive" ceremonies are lined up to celebrate the arrival of the country's second Hamilton class cutter, according to the military. Bought from the US for P600 million, it will eventually be deployed in the country's exclusive economic zone for maritime patrols.
President Benigno Aquino III will personally welcome Alcaraz in a ceremony in Subic, Zambales on Tuesday, August 6, based on a schedule released to the media.
Before Tuesday, two smaller ceremonies will be held in Aurora and Pangasinan involving the country's first Hamilton class cutter BRP Gregorio Del Pilar, yacht owners, and local fishermen.
Alcaraz will arrive on Friday in Casiguran, Aurora. Local fishing boats there will conduct a "Sail Past" to welcome it.
On Saturday, August 3, ceremonies will be staged for Del Pilar to welcome Alcaraz.
Alcaraz and Del Pilar are capable of conducting patrols for long periods of time. They can also withstand heavy weather and rough sea conditions.
