Private sector-led Yes for Peace campaign was launched on Wednesday in Tarlac with over 200 students of Tarlac National High School-Main in attendance. “This undertaking is a revolution of ink and paper by the Filipino people against guns and bullets used in the name of the Filipino people,” Yes for Peace National Advocacy Council Chairman Ricardo Pecson said. The goal is to tap at least ten million Filipinos aged ten years old and older to fill up a questionnaire and answer an astounding “Yes” to the four goals and six paths to peace.

Organizers seek to reach the target by February next year in time for the 27th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. “We are not only advocating for peace. We also call on the national government to have open and participatory peace talks,” Pecson underscored. “We selected Tarlac as the first stop of our caravan in Central Luzon as this is the home province of President Benigno Aquino III who is known for advocating transparency in peace processes specifically in Bangsamoro” Pecson added.

Apart from the answering of questionnaires, student attendees likewise recited the Pledge for Peace and took part in the formation of “Rocks for Peace” and poster making contest. A similar activity will be held in Nueva Ecija National High School in Cabanatuan City on December 14, and Mariano Ponce National High School in Baliwag City on December 17. The campaign is being fully supported by Department of Education, PhilPost, Philippine Information Agency, and National Printing Office.
