From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 13): Army soldiers install temporary water purification station in Davao Oriental town

Elements of the 67th Infantry Battalion and the 525th Engineer Battalion installed a temporary water purification station at Sitio Embarcadero, Barangay Centro, Baganga in Davao Oriental to provide additional potable water to typhoon victims. Lt. Chester Ordonio of the 525th Engineer Battalion, said the purification system will cater to the water needs of about 200 residents by distributing 900 gallons in one day. “The water purification system hopes to provide clean water in evacuation areas so we can prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases,” he said.

Ordonio said a team of medical personnel arrived at the Incident Command Post in Baganga to beef-up medical teams from the local municipal and provincial health offices. He said the team will be sent to the most devastated barangays of Ban-ao and Kinablangan. Joint teams of the 67th Infantry Battalion and the Municipal Police Station escorted relief teams of Baganga to distribute food, medicines and water in Barangays Binondo, Batiano, Mikit, Campawan, Batawan and Mahan-ub. Smart Philippines and Telecom Sans Frontieres based in Bangkok, Thailand installed a local internet capability system to ensure connectivity. In addition, residents availed of free calls courtesy of the said companies.
