Camp Bautista, Jolo, Sulu – Troops of 5th Scout Ranger Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Herbert D. Dilag, Commanding Officer, over ran an Abu Sayyaf harbour site in Indanan, Sulu at 9:00 o’clock this morning September 22, 2020.

In a report from Colonel Antonio I. Bautista Jr. Brigade Commander of 1101st Brigade who has the operational jurisdiction of Indanan, the temporary camp was occupied for almost three days by the group of Mundi Sawadjaan with more or less 40 members. Seized in the harbour site are personal belongings and food stuffs .

The Joint Task Force Sulu’s pursuit operation following the twin bombing in Jolo last August 24 is gaining tactical victories. It can be recalled that Sawadjaan’s group was encountered by troops of 45th Infantry Battalion in Patikul, Sulu last September 20 where the former suffered heavy casualties. For the period from August 25 to date, three Abu Sayyaf Group members, Samir Nani and 2 other, were killed in an encounter initiated by 5th Scout Ranger Battalion in Patikul, Sulu last August 29; moreover, a total of nine ASG members surrendered to JTF Sulu for fear of being neutralized through armed encounter.

At this moment, pursuit military operations are still ongoing utilizing all land, sea, and air assets of the Joint Task Force. On the other hand, Civil-Military Cooperation is being undertaken in tandem with Sulu Governor Abdusakur M Tan along with the nineteen municipal mayors of the province. The Provincial and Municipal Task Forces to End Local Armed Conflict (ELAC) are gaining headway in the implementation of its peace and development programs for the community as well as for the ASG returnees.

We are winning in our peace and development campaign in the island of Sulu; in due time, the dwindling number of the terror group will surely be decimated with the active cooperation and support of the governor and municipal mayors.” – BGen William N.
