CAMP Siongco, Maguindanao- A Philippine Marines soldier from the 5th Marine Battalion Landing Team was killed while four others were injured when an anti-personnel mines (APM) went off while the vehicle of 5th MBLT troops was travelling along Barangay Limpongo in Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao at 8:00 in the evening last September 18.

The Commander of Joint Task Force Central and 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, Major General Juvymax R. Uy, deeply condoles with the family of the hero-soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice of his life, to protect the people from terrorist attacks. He further assures the people of Central and South Central Mindanao that troops of JTF Central will keep them safe against this terrorist groups.

The 5th MBLT troops were deployed in the area to support the ongoing Focused Military Operations targeting Dawlah Islamiya terrorist group in the hinterlands of Maguindanao. The use of APM has been part of the terrorist group’s diversionary tactic, every time the JTF Central conducts military operations in their suspected lairs in the hinterlands of Maguindanao.

Since Friday September 18, 2020, the troops under Joint Task Force Central have been targeting the local terrorists in the area to prevent the group from conducting bombing attacks on civilian populace of Central and South Central Mindanao.
